Through the eyes of a 5 year old

The other day my dd was drawing and came running up to me and said "Look mom what I drew..it's a picture of Buck standing on a cloud up in heaven with God looking down at us." I took in a deep intake of air and looked at my little girl who understands things far more then I could ever comprend and said "Yes..that's him." She draws all the time, and this is one picture that I will keep forever.

The vet called us back today and said Buck died from a GDV (twisted stomach). It happens in deep chested dogs between the ages of 2-10. Something that keeps the stomach taunt gives a little (for no real reason) and the stomach gets slack and flips. The vet said he has never saved a dog from this, by the time the dog gets to the vet office it's to late. It happens fast and it happens w/o warning.

RIP Buck..wait for us at the Rainbow Bridge..

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

Sad day..

Our dog Buck died yesterday out of the blue. He was fine at 3pm, he was dead at 5pm. I am numb.

We did a great job telling the kids (who saw most of the horror, but we spared the actual death). Dh & I were calm and under control, so they were too.

It's a sad day....
